Our next door neighbour has taken a sudden interest in sprucing up her garden (they are blessed as they live in an independent house) and raising some fowl like hens and roosters. Three of them roam around, fly over walls, escape into our compound or roam on the road freely, looking for worms, insects or grains thrown as waste from the opposite grocer's shop.
What a racket they raise all the time, yet their early morning call at the crack of dawn is so sweet and so welcome. Our neighbours are muslims. In urdu the early morning call for prayers is known as 'Azaan'
As usual, there are a few roadside cats looking for a free and tasty meal. They are more of rowdy tomcats. I have written about them in my earlier blog too. The roosters are pretty careful not to get too near them and manage to scare them away by cackling loudly. So far nothing has happened. Yet at times I can see the expression on the cat's face which may read like "What an interesting meal this one will make me, slurp, slurp".
Maybe the cat is letting the fowl fatten some more!
Once or twice, I saw the neighbour shooing away the cat. What irony indeed. She too is waiting until the right time to enjoy its meat. For whom it is destined, only God knows because - 'Daane daane pe likha hai, khaane wale kaa naam' which loosely translates as 'on each grain is engraved the eater's name'. Only in this case, it's not about grains. Indeed.
Cheers.
